Hyper Japan London 2010
October 5th, 2010

HYPER JAPAN London 2010 is a brand new Japanese pop culture event that was held in London at The Old Truman Brewery on 1-3 October. Featuring fashion shows, anime and manga products and Japanese cuisine, it’s the best way to have a taste of the wonderful Japanese culture.
I attended the Saturday event. In the morning on the main stage was a Manga drawing seminar, and around the stage people was giving away freebies bags with all the latest anime flyers and broachers. After collecting some freebie bags, I started looking around for the toy stalls. First up was the Good smile company who was there promoting Black Rock Shooter, a new anime recently released on DVD. The figures were really cool – a black and blue colour scheme in both animation form and nendoroid form.

They also had a cute Nendoroid ‘Sherlock Shellingford’ from the Milky Holmes anime.

Square Enix had a large area at the event to promote their figures and merchandise from popular franchises. Wonderfully detailed Final fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry figures were on display.

There were various stalls selling Japanese products, from fashion magazine to hello kitty merchandise, not to mention all the amazing foods. Sushi, bento boxes, and katsu curries, were all available to eat; Plus an assortment of Japanese tea and beer. At midday they had the main event on stage – HYPER STYLE A GO GO. KERA, Japan’s ultimate street fashion magazine presents three of japans’ leading street fashion leaders: Naoki Matsumura, Editorial Supervisor of KERA magazine, Mami Honda, a top hair and makeup artist from Japan and special celebrity guest, Misako Aoki, top kera model and an official ambassador of cute(!) by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They discussed the latest fashion trends.

It was an enjoyable day, with a lot to see; from the cosplay dressed people walking around to the amazing food stalls tempting you to eat more and more. I look forward to next year’s event.
